Neck Pain

Neck pain can affect your ability to turn your head, work, drive, exercise, or sleep comfortably. At CorAxis Chiropractic & Wellness, we begin by learning about your symptoms and evaluating how your neck, shoulders, upper back, posture, and movement work together.

Understanding Neck Pain

Neck pain may develop gradually or begin after an injury. Common contributing factors can include prolonged computer or phone use, repetitive activity, muscle tension, restricted joint movement, poor sleeping positions, physical stress, or an auto accident.

Some people feel stiffness or soreness only in the neck. Others may also notice discomfort across the shoulders or upper back. When a nerve is irritated, symptoms may travel into the arm or hand and may include numbness, tingling, or weakness.

Neck pain does not have the same cause in every patient. A careful evaluation is important before recommendations are made.

How CorAxis Evaluates and May Support Neck Pain

Dr. Angie Espinal reviews your health history, how the symptoms began, what activities affect them, and whether you have experienced an injury. The evaluation may include posture, neck and shoulder movement, joint mobility, muscle tension, strength, sensation, reflexes, and other clinical testing when appropriate.

If the findings suggest that conservative chiropractic care is appropriate, recommendations are personalized to your needs and comfort level. Care may include chiropractic adjustments, low-force techniques, movement assessment, muscle release therapy, mobility work, or corrective exercises.

Not every patient needs the same services. The goal is to identify restricted movement, mechanical stress, and other factors that may be affecting how the neck and surrounding areas function.

Safety and When Medical Referral Is Needed

Neck pain is not always caused by a simple muscle or joint problem. Symptoms following significant trauma, rapidly increasing pain, fever, severe headache, unexplained weakness, loss of coordination, difficulty walking, changes in speech or vision, chest pain, or new bowel or bladder changes require prompt medical evaluation.

New or progressive numbness, tingling, or weakness in an arm or leg may also require additional testing or referral.

If Dr. Espinal determines that chiropractic care is not appropriate, she will explain her concerns and recommend the proper next step. This may include referral to a primary care physician, urgent care center, emergency department, neurologist, orthopedic specialist, or another qualified healthcare professional.

Patient safety comes before beginning or continuing chiropractic care.
